The second phase of the project “Clean Serbia” begins

With the signing of the annex to the contract, the second phase of the “Clean Serbia” project practically began today. Contracts were signed with another 8 local governments.

As part of the project, sewerage will be built in 73 municipalities, at 89 locations, 157 wastewater treatment plants, a total of about five million meters of sewage pipes will be laid, and about 2.36

million people will be connected to the sewage system, said the Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Goran Vesić, who together with the director of the Chinese company China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) Yang Dung and representatives of eight local governments in Serbia: Sombora, Valjevo, Ćićevci, Doljevac, Ade, Svilajnca, Inđija and Subotica signed annexes to the contract, which practically started the second phase of the project “Clean Serbia.

Minister Vesić pointed out that the realization of this project shows that the cooperation between Serbia and China provides a better life for the citizens of Serbia and it is the realization of the vision of the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, to improve Serbia’s traffic, infrastructure and utilities.

“The total value of these projects is slightly higher than 213 million euros, the length of the sewage pipes is 444 km, and the third phase will be completed next year, and the entire project is worth more than 3.5 billion euros,” said Minister Vesić.

The signing was also attended by the Chinese ambassador to Serbia, Chen Bo, who stated that Clean Serbia is a project of great importance for the development of Serbia, related to improving the living standards of citizens and protecting environment and reminded that the first phase of the project is going well.

“With the implementation of this project, CRBC will do a lot for the protection of the environment and the development of Serbia. The project itself is important for the Belt and Road initiative and we are actually building a green Belt and Road,” said the president of CRBC Du Fay, who at the same time thanked for the trust shown to this to the company.

Vesić: Serbia not utilising its rivers enough

The Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Goran Vesic has said that Serbia does not utilise its rivers enough and that we had been acting as if we do not have that many kilometers of river coasts, pointing out that his Ministry is putting in efforts to better utilise our rivers in the future.

Among other things, he has stated that in Belgrade, within the scope of work that his Ministry is competent for, two new wastewater treatment factories will be built.

“The construction of one of the factories has begun, in Veliko selo, and we will also be building in Batajnica” Vesic said.

That will undo more than 90 per cent of all effluents that we have had in the rivers Danube and Sava, the Minister said and added that every year, the amount of discharged wastewater in Belgrade is in the size of 60,000 Olympic swimming pools.

“We should work together so that our rivers could become not only our treasure, but also a potential for our development, and on the other hand an attraction for more tourists and promotion of our country” Vesic stated.

Vučić: Wastewater in Sokobanja will be resolved

During his visit to Sokobanja, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić announced investments in communal infrastructure within the “Clean Serbia” project.

The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, stated that the problem of the citizens of Sokobanja regarding waste water and drinking water will be solved quickly, precisely through the “Clean Serbia” project.

“The value of this project will be around 15 million euros. If we only do half of this, it will be more investment in Sokobanja than in previous decades,” said President Vučić.

The President was accompanied by the Minister of Environmental Protection Irena Vujović, Minister of Tourism Husein Memic, Minister of Agriculture Jelena Tanasković, Minister of Construction Goran Vesić and Minister of Trade Tomislav Momirović.
