“After December 31, 2025, the discharge of unprocessed wastewater into rivers will no longer be tolerated, but all will have to be processed,” said Goran Vesić, Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, pointing out that the ministry, as part of the “Clean Serbia” project “on the territory of the City of Belgrade engaged in the construction of several WWTPs.
According to the data presented by Minister Goran Vesić, in Belgrade alone, there are about a hundred direct discharges of sewage into the Sava and Danube with a total volume of about 60,000 Olympic-sized pools of waste water per year.
Vesić states that factories for the processing of waste water are being built in several locations.
“In Sopot, we are building 220 kilometers of sewage network and three plants – “Mali Požarevac”, “Rogača” and “Sopot”. We are building a wastewater treatment plant and an additional 27 kilometers of sewage in Ostružnica. We are building 61 kilometers of sewage and a plant in Mladenovac, and two plants on the territory of the municipality of Lazarevac, one each in Lazarevac and Veliki Crljeni,” said Vesić.
At the same time, the minister reminded that the first phase of the waste water processing plant is being worked on in Veliki Selo, together with Chinese and French partners, worth more than 300 million euros.
“When we finish Veliko Selo and Batajnica, we will eliminate more than 90 percent of the direct discharges of sewage into the Sava and Danube in Belgrade,” Vesić pointed out.
The minister called on all other industrialists in Serbia to start designing and building WWTPs in their facilities in accordance with the Government’s decision and the law, and added that based on the contract with the Investment Framework for the Western Balkans (WBIF), he is planning a wastewater treatment plant in Batajnica, which will to include the entire Surčin and all those settlements that gravitate to Batajnica, but today do not have sewerage.
