Momirović: By the end of the year 300 km of sewage network

Around 300 km of sewage network and 4 wastewater treatment plants is the plan which will be realized by the end of this year within the „Clean Serbia“ Project. The Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure says that the very „Clean Serbia“ Project is avant-garde and ambitious and therefore – was not easy to initiate.

„We are currently working on not on thirty locations but on the territory of 30 local self-governments constructing sewage infrastructure and collector facilities. When the Government is investing in more than 100 locations with the goal of completely changing the ecological landscape of the country, that is no small undertaking. We will have finished by the end of September around 300 km of sewage infrastrucutre on the territory of the entire country. We plan to comission 4 plants by the end of the year, and by the end of the next year more than 20 plants. Those are big tasks and this Government has made a huge shift in perception when it comes to environmental projects.“ Momirović stated.

He reminds that the implementation of environmental projects has already commenced and it the results are already clearly visible.

„ We have constructed one of the biggest plants in the country, a wastewater treatment plant in Kruševac, perhaps the most modern in Europe. We have built in Vranje. Now, we are working on 140 km of new sewage infrastrucutre and I have mixed feelings because we failed to promote that adequatly. Izgradili smo verovatno jedno od najvećih postrojenja u zemlji, postrojenje za prečišćavanje otpadnih voda u Kruševcu , možda najmodernije u Evropi. We have invested huge effots and amounts of money. The President of the Republic insisted on these projects, and we failed to adequatly promote them. On the contrary, we allowed some people, for whom we can now clearly see, when they publicly submitted their biographies, that they are semi-educated with more than questionable working experience, and that they are people who will work exclusively for financial interests and people who work for foreign interests, to vilify this kind of work. That needs to be a message to a new Government, we need to have more strength, we need to insist on finishing projects like these because these projects change the ecological landscape of our country. Both here near the river Kolubara and on the territory of Western Morava River and the Tisa River. We have to preserve our rivers so that our children can drink water from them. Look at how we have cleaned the river Pek, and there was a lot of serious pollution and filth there. We have improved the state of affairs. We have to finish these projects and continue forward despite the war in Europe and sactions, lack of gas, oil and electricity being the main topics, and despite all of that we are building roads, building factories and changing the landscape of Serbia in terms of environment and ecology. The projects must move forward and that will be the greatest legacy of this Government guided by Aleksandar Vučić“ Momirović stated while visiting the works within the “Clean Serbia” Project in Lajkovac.

Minister Momirović has especially emphasized that the development and implementation of environmental projects cannot be realized at the expense of industry and development of the country but must go hand-in-hand with them.

„We are working on design documentation for around 70 local self-governments and each has 4 or 5 locations. Some municipalities are more successful than others. Our plan is to invest several billion Euros and to completely change the image of Serbia, because these are the European standards. That is what we want for our citizens, European standards and that is what we have to provide. Without endangering the economy of Serbia at any point. We do not wish to endanger the mines or destroy the metal or chemical industry in order to work on ecology. No, we are doing it in such a way that industry needs to exist in order for the economy of this country to survive and to maintain the economic growth. Our citizens deserve that and that is where we have to succeed. In parallel with industry, we are investing in environmental projects“ Momirović explained.

Efforts to raise the environmental standards to that of Europe and developed countries is no small task  because, as the Minister puts it, environment was not a topic for decades in Serbia.

„There is still so much to do and it is not easy to compensate decades of idleness in just a few years.  Environment did not exist as a topic, and some projects which were implemented, were realized in utter failure. We have changed some things and we will change even more. Much was initiated, but as I have previously stated, we have not promoted everything enough. We wanted to construct kilometers of sewage, wastewater treatment plants, to preserve our rivers and that is exactly what we are doing. We have done a lot already, and the results are clearly visible, and others will add up those results“ says the Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure.

Momirović in visit to beginning of works on asphalting in Rubribreza

In the Municipality of Lajkovac, within the „Clean Serbia“ Project, asphalting of a 1,200 m long section has begun today after the completion of construction of sewage infrastructure. The works at the beggining of asphalting were visited by the Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Tomislav Momirović.

Municipality of Lajkovac, which was among the first municipalities to prepare the documentation and among the first municipalities where works on the implementation of the „Clean Serbia“ Project began, currently has three active sites: Bogovadja, Jabučje i Rubribreza.

So far, in Rubibreza itself, 2,870.00 meters of sewage network has been constructed, and connecting of residents there is currently in progress.  After the installing of pipes and completion of that part of technical works, asphalting of a section 1.2 kilometers in lenght has begun today.

„We have done a lot so far. On the territory of Lajkovac we have constructed 10 km of sewage infrastructure. Asphalting will begin here today and the plan is for the residents to receive a completely new asphalt. We plan to construct a total of 33 km of network, two wastewater treatment plants, which is very important as part of the Project as a whole, because plants are an integral part of Environmental Projects such as this one. We expect one plant to be finished by the end of this year. Great effort has been put here and for that I am thankful to our Chinese partners, people from the Municipality and naturally, to my associates from the Ministry“, Momirović said.

„I am exceptionally glad that the Municipality of Lajkovac was one of the first to be a part of the “Clean Serbia” Project, which is certainly a historic project in our country regarding the environmental issues. This Project will not only improve the living conditions of the residents of the Municipality of Lajkovac but it will also raise the environmental awareness of all the citizens. We are today in Rubibreza, where the works within the first phase of the Project are essentially complete. Two kilometers of sewage were constructed here and currently, household connections are being realized, and restoration of local roads to their original state is also in progress which is very important for the rural population. Above all, many thanks to the Minister Momirović for meeting our needs” the President of the Municipality of Lajkovac Andrija Živković stated.

Živković added that what follows is the continuation of works in Bogovadja in the length of 3 kilometers and where additionally one smaller wastewater treatment plant in the capacity of 600 users will be constructed, and then the reconstruction of the plant in Lajkovac itself which has the capacity of 10,000 users.

„The works are also in progress in the largest village of the Municipality of Lajkovac – Jabučje. A sewage network over 20 km long will be constructed. With that, we will have completed the whole in Lajkovac where over 30km of sewage network and two new wastewater treatment plants will be constructed by which more than 50% of residents will be connected to a wastewater and rainwater sewage, and we will, as a Municipality, continue to expand the network. The Minister visited Lajkovac multiple times already which has never happened before, and that shows that we have many works in Serbia, construction of factories, roads and municipal infrastructure and that the Serbian Government is looking after all of that“ Živković stated.

Construction of sewage infrastcturue in villages has until now been an almost impossible undertaking. The „Clean Serbia“ Project is not only improving the urban areas but is also facilitating the development of rural areas. „The Municipality of Lajkovac is keeping up with the development of not only cities but villages as well. It is very important that rural or smaller areas are developing. We have demonstrated that here and included two villages into the Project. People who live in such areas also desere to have the same living conditions as those living in cities. I have to admit the residents were not expecting this but they are satisfy and they genuinely accept the ongoing works within the „Clean Serbia“ Project“, Živković commented.

Commencement of works in Bogovađa near Lajkovac

After the completion of sewage network for a part of Rubibreza in the near vicinity of the Municipality of Lajkovac, construction of two kilometers of sewage network has commenced in Bogovadja. The ‘Clean Serbia’ Project also plans for the construction of a wastewater treatment plant.

The construction of two kilometers of primary sewage network has commenced in Bogovađa. The president of the Municipality of Lajkovac Andrija Živkovic has attended the start of works and took the chance to emphasise that the implementation of the “Clean Serbia” Project one of the most significant projects in the Municipality of Lajkovac.

“The value of works is around 2 billion Serbian Denars which is more than two annual municipal budgets. We have already completed Phase I – sewage for a part of Rubibreza and this local community is now completely covered by wastewater sewage. Works are well underway in the LC of Jabucje where Phase I has been completed and Phase II should begin soon: where in the second part of Jabucje 24 kilometers of primary network will be constructed. The Municipality of Lajkovac will, in the following period, in accordance with budget possibilities and technical conditions, construct sewage for parts of Bogovađa distant from the center, but with these two kilometers most of the settlement of Bogovađa is covered. Thanks to good cooperation with the Ministry of Construction, there is a good chance that we will receive four kilometers of primary sewage for the settlement of Ćelije, in the value of 50 million Serbian Denars, even though at first that was not part of the ‘Clean Serbia’ Project plan. By the end of August, complete reconstruction of the existing wastewater treatment plant in Lajkovac will begin, which will be able to accept new users, and the sewage in Jabučje and Ćelije will be connected to this plant” Živkovic stated.

Wastewater treatment plant will have the capacity for 600 users, which enables the further expansion of the network.

Momirović touring the works in Mionica: So far – 160km of sewage network in Serbia

The Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Tomislav Momirović has visited the works on the implementation of the “Clean Serbia” Project in Mionica. Four Wastewater Treatment Plants and sewage network in Mionica and Banja Vrujci will receive an investment of 10.5 million Euros.

During the visit of works on the construction of municipal infrastructure in Mionica, the Minister of Construction and Infrastructure Tomislav Momirović has informed the public that so far, within the “Clean Serbia” Project, around 160 km of new sewage infrastructure has been made.

“Our operational plan is to, by the end of the year, complete the four Wastewater Treatment Plants, and I am truly proud of the ‘Clean Serbia’ Project, which we have initiated on the territory of the entire country. Specifically, here in Mionica and Banja Vrujci, we are working on around 20 km of new sewage infrastructure and two Wastewater Treatment Plants, in which we will invest 10.5 million Euros,” said the Minister.

The Minister has concluded that exactly with Projects like this, the image of Serbia is improving.

Praise to the Project and the Minister was given by the President of the Municipality of Mionica Boban Janković, noting that implementation of the “Clean Serbia” Project in Mionica is a historical moment.

“This may perhaps be a historical moment for us, because the state has allocated massive funds in order to improve the quality of life of the residents in Mionica and Banja Vrujci. Residents of Mionica can clearly see that the state invests a lot, and we used to dream about a project of muicipal infrastructure construction, and now we know that Mionica will be a place in accordance with all environmental standards. I must commend the Minister Momirović, since this is his fourth visit of works in Mionica alone”, Janković said.

The “Clean Serbia” Project plans for the construction of 10,581m of sewage network in Mionica, and 8,498 meters in Banja Vrujci. Two Wastewater Treatment Plants are planned for this area, each in Mionica and Banja Vrujci respectively. The Contractor of the works is a Chinese company called CRBC.

Works in Kragujevac are progressing

Today, representatives of “Clean Serbia” visited the works on the construction of sewage infrastructure in Kragujevac. The works in Maršić are proceeding according to the expected dynamics.

In Kragujevac, as part of the “Clean Serbia” project, works are currently being carried out at as many as 4 locations, namely: Maršić, Denino brdo, Brdjanska and Male pčelice, while in the immediate vicinity in the Municipality of Knić, works are being carried out at two locations Kusovac-Toponica and Knić celina 3.

The works in Maršić were visited today by Wang Xuefeng, manager of the “Clean Serbia” project and the Chinese company CBRC, and Dragan Jeremić, advisor to the Minister of Infrastructure.

During the visit, the representatives of “Clean Serbia” noted that the works at 19 Oktobar Street in Maršić are nearing completion, while the sewer network in Mladena Milovanovića Street is in full construction. Only in this part of Kragujevac, works are being carried out in the length of 1,489.00m, where pipes of profile fi300 and 2,877,00m of pipes of profile fi 250 are being laid. The total projected length for this settlement is 3,877.00m.

The equivalent of households that will be covered by the construction of the sewage network is about 350.

Final asphalting in Vranje

The first asphalting within the ‘Clean Serbia’ Project in Vranje was completed today. “A lot of work is upon us, and the City of Vranje will keep providing the necessary aid, in order to ensure the works are progressing according to the planned dynamic”, said the Mayor of Vranje Slobodan Milenkovic.

The first works on the realization of the Project, which began in December last year, are now entering their final phase. Asphalting of the Sava Kovacevic Street was completed today

“This is the first asphalt to be laid through the ‘Clean Serbia’ Program in the entire country. Asphalting is starting in Vranje in the same way, as the first implementation of the ‘Clean Serbia’ Project started in our city first in the Kosovska Street in December last year. In Vranje, 141 kilometers of sewage network should be built as part of the ‘Clean Serbia’ Project in the value of 70 million Euros, as well as 33.05 kilometers in Vranjska Banja,” says the Mayor Slobodan Milenkovic.

At a meeting organized with representatives of the ‘Clean Serbia’ Project after a tour of the asphalting works, he noted that demanding works await in the coming period on the entire territory of the City of Vranje. According to him, the city is already intensively working on the designing.

“Permits have already been secured for 22.5 kilometers of the network, and 3.2 kilometers of the sewage network have already been built” Milenkovic explained.

More than half a kilometer of 6-meter-wide roadway is asphalted in the Sava Kovacevic Street.

As all worksmake traffic communication difficult during their execution, the Project Manager of the ‘Clean Serbia’ Project and the ChineseCompany CRBC, Wang Xuefeng thanked the citizens for their patience.

I thank the citizens of Vranje for their patience. I expect that the dynamics of the works will be even better in the coming period. This is a large and important Project, with many challenges. In the coming period, the execution of the works will be organized at several locations simultaneously, and all in order to meet the planned dynamics and deadlines” saidXuefeng.

The asphalting was also attended by the advisor of the Minister of Infrastructure Dragan Jeremic, who said that a lot was done in Vranje in terms of the necessary documentation as a basic prerequisite for the implementation of the Project.

Vranje did a lot. Firstly, design documentation, cooperation with the City Administration and with the Mayor. I can praise the whole structure, because without those who work, there is no solution and no work done. They all depend on each other and in order for one roller orasphalt layer to arrive, they all have to work like clockwork. Vranje did that and I thank them for that” Jeremic said at the meeting and pointed out that this is a concrete and real green project, which will remain with citizens of Vranje for long-term use.

As announced, the citizens now expect the asphalting of the Car Dusan Street, where the works on the installation of the sewage infrastructure have already been carried out.

Finishing works – Asphalting of the Sava Kovačević Street in Vranje

Construction of sewage network in the Sava Kovačević Street has entered the finishing phase. The next street planned for the construction of the finishing layer is the Cara Dušana Street.

As planned by the Project, with more favorable weather conditions this year, the works have began on marking the Sava Kovačević and Dimitrije Tucović Streets so that construction works could begin on time.

After the excavation of the trench, laying of sewage pipes and their backfilling and placing of prefabricated concrete manholes, layers of gravel were installed and preparations were made for the asphalting of the streets. Upon the finish of all works and control tests the contractor will, with the investor, perform the taking-over protocol.

The next street planned for the construction of the finishing layer is the Cara Dušana Street.

The works in Vranje are underway at multiple locations so that the total lenght of 142 km of sewage planned for Vranje and its surroundings could be completed within the planned deadline. The value of the investment in Vranje is 70 million Euros.

Preventing environmental incidents

Even though Serbia does not fall into the category of countries with highly developed environmental protection awareness, river pollution incidents always cause a public uproar. The ‘Clean Serbia’ Project is the country’s response in order to preserve the environment in Serbia with special emphasis on the protection of our rivers.

The Serbian public was notified lately that due to the pollution of Raška River caused by fuel oil discharge, charges were pressed.

Two protests were held because of the River Raška pollution, where citizens asked sanctioning of those responsible, prevention of future environmental incidents and notification of the public whether fuel oil discharge in any way affected the health of the people

Implementation of the ‘Clean Serbia’ Project will in fact cover the Raška River. For the City of Novi Pazar the Project plans for the construction of 110,965.00m of sewage network while the population equivalent covered is 160,000.

It is important to emphasize that global and local environmental associations list the construction of wastewater treatment plants, sewage infrastructure by which wastewaters are directed towards aforementioned plants as prerequisite for environmental protection and preservation. Those prerequisites are the main goals of the ‘Clean Serbia’ Project.

“Clean Serbia” preserves our lakes

Apart of preserving our rivers as a water resource and environmental protection, preservation of lakes in Serbia is also planned with the ’Clean Serbia’ Project.

There are around 150 lakes in Serbia which differ in their origin, size and location. They are an important factor in production of electricity in Serbia, a drinking water resource, protection from floods and are also significant tourist destinations.

Within the ‘Clean Serbia’ Project, not only the environments of cities and municipalities are being preserved, their rivers and Serbian spa resorts, but also rivers. With the implementation of the Project the following lakes will be preserved: Lake Vlasina, Gruža Lake, Bor Lake, Oblačinsko Lake, Lake Bovan, Lake Rovni and Zvornik Lake.

Lake pollution occurs with the discharge of pollutans, weather directly or indirectly. Pollutants Those pollutants affect the flora and fauna living in those water systems. Main pollutants, as research indicates, are in fact wastewaters, and construction of wastewater treatment plants is the only way, as is the case with rivers, to preserve the lakes.

GRUŽA LAKE

With the construction of a dam in 1981, the River Gruža, one of the longest and most water-rich rivers of Šumadija, was dammed. After the construction of a dam near the settlement of Pajsijevići, in the municipality of Knić, a multi-purpose reservoir was formed, the filling of which was completed in 1983. The primary function of this lake is a water supply to the Cities of Kragujevac, Kraljevo and the surrounding villages. Today, more than 300,000 citizens of the Republic of Serbia are supplied with water from this reservoir.

BOVAN LAKE

Bovan Lake is a lake located at Sokobanjska Moravica near Bovan between Sokobanja and Aleksinac. The lake is an artificial reservoir formed with the construction of a dam in 1978, in the regulation system of Morava River basin and the hydro power plant ‘Đerdap’ with the goal to retain sediments of hill and mountain rivers and to accumulate vast amounts of water at the same time.  It is 8 km long, 500m wide and 50m deep. Bovan Lake supplies the city of Aleksinac with water through the wastewater treatment plant.

ROVNI LAKE

Rovni is an artificial lake in Western Serbia, created by damming the Jablanica River and it is the most expensive facility of the Regional Water Management System ’Stubo-Rovni’. Pipeline 11,820 meters long supplies raw water to the wastewater treatment plant for the City of Valjevo.

BOR LAKE

Created in 1959 by damming the Brestovačka River, raising the dam and accumulating the water of Valja and Žoni streamlets, Marecova River and part of Zlot River basin. It covers a surface area of 30 hectares, and the depth of water reaches up to 48 meters. The water is mainly intended for mining and industrial facilities in Bor, but it also facilitates the development of tourism.

OBLAČINSKO LAKE

Oblačinsko Lake is a natural lake in South-Eastern Serbia, twenty or so kilometers West from Niš, near Mali Jastrebac. The lake covers a surface area of around 23 hectares. It originated in the early sixties of the last century when the dried up Oblačinska swamp turned into a lake. In 1965, a motel and an earth dam were constructed, and the bed of the former swamp surface was deepened, filled with water and stocked with fish. It has an extraordinary tourist potential.

LAKE VLASINA

Lake Vlasina is a reservoir lake in South-Eastern Serbia with the surface area of 15 km² and depth of up to 35 m. It is located on the territory of the Municipality of Surdulica, at 1,204 m (middle level) above the sea level. What is especially interesting and specific about this lake are about a hundred turf islands floating on its surface. Beautiful nature makes up the surrounding of this lake, and what is specific and stands out as a tourist attraction is fishing.

ZVORNIK LAKE

Zvornik Lake is an artificial lake on the Drina River, on the border stretching across the primal river flow, between the Republic of Serbia and Republic of Srpska in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The lake extends upstream through the Drina canyon from Zvornik and Mali Zvornik, up to the confluence of Velika reka streamlet in the village of the same name of the Mali Zvornik Municipality. This artificial lake was made with the construction of the hydroelectric power plant “Zvornik” which began in 1948, and the lake basin was filled with water in 1955. The dam is 45 meters high. Zvornik lake is the first artificial reservoir on the Drina River.
